Founder Sophie opens up about her own experience navigating a diagnosis and the inspiration behind Justin's ADHD Nameplate Necklace.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD at age six, and grew up thinking there was something wrong with me. Granted there’s been a lot of progress since the 1980s, but today there’s still inherent misunderstanding about neurodivergence.
The world we live in doesn’t bend to accommodate people like me, so we sometimes have to work harder to navigate certain things, but oftentimes these challenges come with tremendous gifts. You can’t have one without the other, because they both come from the unique hardwiring of our brains. A diagnosis doesn’t mean there’s something wrong or broken.
So many artists and leaders are neurodivergent and grow up with feelings of shame or inadequacy like I experienced. My motivation for the ADHD necklace was a gift to my former self; it would have made a tremendous difference to my self esteem if I’d seen someone I looked up to wear my diagnosis as a BADGE OF HONOR. I want kids today to know that neurodivergence is essential and should be celebrated."
With stars like Justin Theroux and Antoni Porowski proudly displaying their Mad Fine ADHD Nameplate Necklaces, Sophie hopes that more people out there will start to embrace and honor their neurodivergence.
