First and foremost, the nameplate necklace comes from American black hiphop culture. While akowleging that we certainly didn’t invent the concept, we’ve decided to nod to that rich cultural history of the nameplate by employing smiliar text-based necklace designs to highlight other margenilized or largely invisible minority groups.
